Match Report SAFC Foundation Pumas 1 V 1 Whitburn Wasps
4th May 2010
On surprisingly warm and sunny evening we faced Whitburn Wasps barely five weeks since our narrow victory in their home fixture. The Pumas started well and dominated the early possession but could not find an end product. The Pumas inability to score caused them to lose composure and shape and Whitburn grew in confidence as the half progressed. By the end of the first half Whitburn looked the most likely to score, but the Pumas held on to keep the match even at half time. In the second half, no doubt after some encouraging words from Paul, the Pumas seemed more composed and took control of the game again but still struggled to break Whitburn down. Fifteen minutes in we were awarded a free kick on the left wing which Nathan deftly placed into the top of the goal despite the keeper getting his finger tips to the shot. The goal lifted the Pumas and they looked to consolidate their lead, but eight minutes later a thrown in into the box wasn't dealt with and it fell to a Whitburn player who shot under Johnny's dive to square the match. This goal shook the Pumas and re-invigorated Whitburn who sensed they could snatch a winner. The Pumas dug in and defended resolutely to seal the draw.
Man of the match - Worked bravely and tirelessly at right back, winning just about every tackle and header he commited to. |
